Meet the Team

Rory “Raukes” Sheldon
Rory is from Botswana and believes his home country to be the most beautiful place on earth. His aim is to promote Botswana to the outside world as the leading global destination for travellers and nature lovers alike.
He is committed to supporting local communities and ensuring that local Batswana directly participate and engage in a sustainable tourism that helps the environment and improves the livelihoods of community members within tourist areas.
For many years he has worked against the advances of oil drilling and exploration in the Okavango region and he leads the EmpowerNature project focused on traditional revival around the Tsodilo Hills in northwestern Botswana. Rory holds an Msc in Biodiversity, Wildlife, and Ecosystem Health from the University of Edinburgh and he is currently studying to be an African Earth Jurisprudence Practitioner. He strongly believes in the revival of traditional practices and governance as the most viable path forward for indigenous and local communities to live in harmony with nature.
Rory actively travels into the Okavango Delta with his wife and two sons whenever he can. He is ready to answer any of your questions and help you begin the experience of a lifetime as you uncover the untamed beauty of Africa. Contact him for anything – rory@theafricanwild.com

Tumisang “Tumie” Sebego
Born and raised in Botswana, Tumie has the Okavango Delta right in her backyard — a place that continues to inspire her every day. Based in the safari town of Maun, she’s spent nearly two decades connecting travellers to the wild heart of Southern Africa.
From the shimmering salt pans of Makgadikgadi to the whispering reeds of the Delta, Tumie knows these landscapes like old friends. As a Safari Specialist for The African Wild, she brings warmth, local insight, and a storyteller’s touch to every journey she designs — creating safaris that feel as personal as they are unforgettable.
She is an expert on all aspects of travel in Botswana, and any questions you may have which have not been answered in our Botswana FAQ, she can answer. Contact Tumie on: tumie@theafricanwild.com

Sam “Morena” Mopalo
Sam leads our mobile safari tours. He has a deep knowledge of wildlife and is generally considered to be the best person to share fireside stories with while in Botswana. He has been leading safaris into the Okavango since 1999.
He has worked for some of the region’s biggest operators such as And Beyond. He knows the Delta better than anyone, and his deep respect for wildlife makes him the best mobile safari guide in the country. He is also deeply committed to community enhancement and understands different communities throughout Ngamiland. He always has a smile and a story to share.

Kabo “KK” Kelebetse
Kabo Kelebetse is from the Hambukushu Tsodilo Village and is the Museum Director at the Tsodilo Hills. He works and supports the Empower Nature project with The African Wild in northwestern Botswana and also leads tours around Tsodilo Hills for guests wishing to visit the birthplace of mankind.
For many years Kabo has grown increasingly concerned about how the loss of traditional practices and beliefs leads to the degradation of sacred sites, increases social problems and creates a disconnection with the land. He leads cultural initiatives across the region with traditional dance and ceremony to restore a pride in people and place.

Robyn “Byn” Sheldon
Robyn leads our Spiritual Safaris in the Okavango and Chobe. She has spent more than three decades exploring the great mystery of being human—through meditation, art, midwifery, writing, and a generous dose of soul-led curiosity. From her home in the Okavango, she guides Soul Integration journeys, helping others untangle fear and remember their deeper truth, all while believing that healing the world begins with healing ourselves, and healing ourselves is magnificently guided by the wisdom of the natural world.
From symbolic messages to animal communication to dropping into the vast stillness of the Okavango, we heal best when our environment is whole and undisturbed. Join her for a soul led safari and connect with the wilderness in a deeper and meaningful way.
Tumie and Rory go waaaaaaay back
Rory and Tumie have been close friends since they were five – which means they have known each other for 40 years. They grew up together in Botswana and spent ages exploring wild areas whenever they could escape from the same schools they attended. They were very good at mischief, and they often found themselves in trouble. Tumie once blew up the high school science laboratory and blamed it on Rory. He was (at the very least) partly responsible and he eventually forgave her. They have always shared a deep fondness for the natural world, and they now thrive working together. They compliment each other well, have a deep knowledge of the inner workings of the safari industry, and together form a dynamic team that is able to offer the best in Botswana safaris and beyond.
