Tucked into an old riverine forest in the far western corner of the Kwara Private Reserve, 4 Rivers is the kind of camp that reminds you why you came to the Delta in the first place. From the shade of the trees, camp looks out across a small lagoon to Maboa Island, where the comings and goings of elephant, lechwe and birdlife provide a gentle, ever-changing theatre. Just nine tented rooms — including one family tent — rest on raised wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom and both indoor and outdoor showers, so you can rinse off the day’s dust under an open sky. The heart of camp is a series of intimate spaces that flow into one another: a lounge here, a bar there, a pool for the warmer months, and always somewhere quiet to sit and simply listen. Days are spent exploring one of the most game-rich corners of the Okavango with a dedicated guide-and-tracker team, whether on morning, afternoon or night drives, on foot with a walking guide, or gliding through the channels by mokoro when the floodwaters allow. It is an unhurried, honest slice of the wild — and proof that you don’t need to compromise on the experience to keep a safari within reach.

Personal Thoughts on 4 Rivers

I remember heading out camping with my parents in the Tsum Tsum floodplain as a child. Back then there were no camps in this area at all, and I truly cherish those memories. 4 Rivers was built circa 2020, to the northwest of the Kwara concession, and this has given me the opportunity to return to that area – and for this I will always be grateful to this camp. And it is a stunning camp. It looks out over the channel and onwards acros the Tsum Tsum flood plain. It has a wonderful newly built wooden feel to it. Wildlife sightings are off the charts. Wild Dogs are seen regularly. And it is perfect for families. It’s also a very reasonably priced option for what you receive. It’s a gem and comes very recommended.
