Deception Valley

Deception Valley Lodge sits within the 43,000-hectare Deception Valley Private Reserve on the north-eastern boundary of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, one of the largest private wilderness concessions in Botswana. The lodge takes its name from the valley itself, a fossil riverbed whose seasonal mirages once deceived early explorers into believing a river still flowed through it, and which today remains one of the richest wildlife corridors in the Kalahari.

Accommodation consists of eight spacious en-suite suites, including two family units, each raised to overlook the surrounding savanna. Every suite has its own lounge area, outdoor shower and private deck, while the two family suites offer two en-suite bedrooms with individual lounges sharing a common outdoor deck, all designed for guests to take in uninterrupted views over the Kalahari plains.

The lodge is known for its strong San Bushman guiding tradition, with resident trackers leading walks that reveal the ancient survival knowledge of the Kalahari’s first people alongside qualified professional guides. Strategically placed hides allow for quiet, close-range wildlife observation, complementing the day and night game drives that explore the fossil valley and surrounding grasslands.

Deception Valley’s private reserve status allows for night drives and off-road tracking not permitted inside the neighbouring national park, giving guests a broader range of ways to encounter the Kalahari’s black-maned lions, brown hyena, cheetah, gemsbok, springbok and eland, along with a rich variety of raptors and other birdlife across the open plains.
