Duke’s Camp is a striking new safari destination in the northern Okavango Delta, situated in the northwest sector adjoining the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Named in honour of Sarefo ‘Duke’ Sarefo, custodian of this island wilderness and a master fisherman of the Wayeyi tribe whose family has called Kgao Island home for three generations, the camp draws its inspiration from the crystal-clear channels that wind around it. Duke’s Camp brings the vintage safari panache of the legendary Jack’s Camp to a vast, game-rich concession with limited human impact.

There are eight canvas safari suites – five twins, two doubles and one family unit – each pitched on a raised wooden deck beneath a canopy of ebony and leadwood trees. The tents revel in a vintage safari aesthetic of plush fabrics, Persian rugs and hand-carved four-poster beds, with spacious en-suite bathrooms featuring indoor and outdoor showers, brass fittings and a private viewing deck with leather campaign chairs.

The main mess area is a delight of old-world glamour, with an elegant Persian tea tent, a well-stocked drinks cabinet, and a small lounge furnished with carved tables and antique oriental rugs. Meals are a lavish, communal affair beneath giant ebony trees or at the long vintage dining table, with three-course dinners celebrating the Jack’s Camp tradition of fine food and wine in the bush. A swimming pool, library and spa treatments round out camp life.

This corner of the Delta is said to have some of the highest concentrations of lion anywhere in the region, alongside healthy populations of leopard, African wild dog, elephant and red lechwe, with over 350 bird species recorded. Activities include day and night game drives, mokoro and boat excursions, fishing, scenic helicopter flights and visits to the Tsodilo Hills rock art site. Duke’s Camp is open year-round and belongs to the Natural Selection portfolio.
