Kanana Camp sits in its own private concession in the southwestern Okavango Delta, overlooking the Xudum River and shaded by ancient jackalberry, acacia and Kigelia trees. A necklace of palm, fig, ebony and knobthorn islands surrounds the camp, home to a rich variety of birds, plants and animals, and being a private concession means no time limits on activities, off-road drives, night drives and bush dinners are all part of the experience.

Guests are accommodated in eight homey, wood-framed safari tents raised on wooden walkways, offering privacy and sweeping views over the channels and seasonal floodplains. Each tent has en-suite facilities with a double vanity, flush toilet and walk-in shower, plus a private deck overlooking the Xudum River, a perfect spot to watch hippos at the water’s edge.

The main lodge is raised and split across three open-sided levels, with a small reading nook, bar, lounge with soft sofas and a dining room serving delicious meals with expansive Delta views. Wooden steps lead down to a sandy fire pit and jetty for traditional dinners under the stars.

This part of the Delta is famous for superb birding, including a seasonal heronry that teems with activity from July to December. Activities include day and night game drives, motorboat and glass-bottomed mokoro excursions, fishing (excluding January and February) and walking safaris in search of napping lions and leopards. Children aged 6 and over are welcome, though some activities are age-dependent.
