Kwara is the perfect camp for new comers to the Delta. It is secluded, amassed with prime wildlife, and offers some old-world safari luxuries that many other lodges in the Okavango have missed. The camp sits on the banks of a secluded lagoon in the middle of the Kwara concession, a resplendent area of land to the north of the Moremi reserve that is roughly the size of Luxembourg.
The camp belongs to the Kwando Safaris portfolio and has access to both permanent waterways and expansive dry land areas which gives visitors the chance to explore the Delta by overland game drives and water safaris by either mokoro or motor boat. Walking excursions are offered as well as seasonal fishing.
The area around the camp is abundant with wildlife and Big Five sighting are common place. Furthermore, it is one of the few camps in the Delta where white rhino viewings occur. The birdlife in the area is also phenomenal, making the camp a great option for ornithologists.
The camp consists of eight lavishly decorated canvas tents. Built on platforms with hardwood floors, the tents retain a comforting safari feel. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and private decks that overlook either the floodplain or the lagoon.
The camp also has a honeymoon suite located in a more private area of the grounds, which is the perfect option for a romantic getaway.
The communal area consists of a swimming pool for cooling off during the day, a bar, a lounge and a hide. A large boma (fireplace) is located on the lagoon side of the communal area where breakfast and supper are served.
Please note that no under 18s are allowed in Kwara, so this is not a camp to consider for a family safari.

🚙 Game Drives — max. four guests to a vehicle, with off-road tracking and night drives. Vehicles have enhanced features: USB ports, comfortable drop-down ladder access, storage between seats, and adjustable padded armrests as extra support for long camera lenses. Binoculars available. Roof canopy removed at guide’s discretion or guest request when circumstances allow.
🚤 Boating — available all year. Visit the Godikwe heronry (best Sep–Dec) and fishing during open season (Mar–Dec).
🛶 Mokoro — available all year, departing from the camp lagoon.
🚶 Nature Walks — off-road, on foot, with specialist walking guides.
Personal Thoughts on Kwara
Kwara is the big sister of all of Kwando Camps. It’s their premier option and it stands out. It’s got the luxury edge, but it isn’t too over the top either which I like. While it is marketed as being more luxury orientated, what I like is that the owners have very clearly decided to focus on wildlife first, and then comfort and luxury as bonus to back this up. Other luxury camps in the Okavango generally have this the other way around, and this is why I like Kwara. Sure it’s got all the luxury ammenities and comforts one would hope for, but you choose this camp for the amazing access to wildlife, its permanent water, and the guides and trackers who are some of the best there are in Botswana (and by this I mean the world). The only downside to Kwara is that there are no kids under 18 allowed. This is a downside for families, but also an upside for couples or groups looking for peace and quiet and a remarkable wildlife experience.
