Lagoon camp takes the Okavango experience to a whole new level. The lodge belongs to the Kwando Safaris portfolio To call it a luxurious camp is to call into question the very definition of the word luxury. It is luxury, and then some more. But beyond luxury, the camp offers an authentic and unforgettable experience to its guests. It represents the beauty of Botswana and is undoubtedly one of the best lodges to be found anywhere in Africa.

The camp nestles amongst outlandishly tall ebony trees on the shady banks of the Kwando River. The densely forested site is the perfect location for a camp dedicated to the ultimate eco-luxury experience, and the quantity of wildlife in close proximity to the lodge is jaw dropping. But best of all are the seasonal migration of thousands of elephant and buffalo that pass right in front of the camp. The concentration of game in the area attracts large predators and it is common for guests to view lion and leopard drinking from the banks of the river while enjoying an evening cocktail with dinner on the main deck.

Much like Lebala Camp, Lagoon Camp has a resident population of Wild dogs that adds to the game viewing experience tenfold.

The camp has eight luxurious tented rooms with private decks and lavish bathrooms that include both indoor and outdoor bathing facilities. The rooms are elegantly designed, fresh, and provide more luxuries than one might expect from a camp in the Delta.

The main thatched areas of the camp include a bar and a lounge, dining area, a curio shop and second-level library overlooking the river. The camp also has a plunge pool and outdoor deck.

This camp is a highly recommendable lodge option for romantic couples looking to escape and spend some quality time together.

Personal Thoughts on Lagoon Camp

Lagoon Camp is a real favourite of mine in the Kwando portfolio, set right on the banks of the Kwando River. It’s real unchartered territory out there (on the Botswana side of the river at least). The camp is run by Kwando Safaris, which is entirely Botswana citizen-owned and close friends of mine. The citizen ownership is worth highlighting, since it means the benefits of your stay flow directly back into local hands rather than an overseas operator. They also have a much stronger focus on wildlife than other camps in my opinion, and this really shows. The wildlife sightings around both Lagoon and its sister camp Lebala are off the charts. They consistently are rated the best wildlife camps in Africa, which means the world. Lagoon also has spacious tents, and the private decks over the river are a real treat, especially when elephant come down to drink right in front of you. Hell, elephant spend a lot of time in camp. I’ve had elephants looking over the reed walling and down on me while taking a shower while in Lagoon. One of them even grabbed the shampoo – by which point I was well back within the safety of my room. Like I say, it’s wild out there.
