Leroo La Tau is an idyllic camp located on the banks of the Boteti River, close to the mighty Makgadikgadi Pans. A beautiful camp, and a great way to experience the beauty of Botswana.

Situated on the western side of the Boteti River, approximately 144 km from Maun, the camp is a relaxed spot with easy access into the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.

The lodge has 12 large and spacious thatched suites with private viewing platforms and en suite bathrooms. There is a main section to the lodge with a dining area and a swimming pool with a panoramic view over the river.

Game viewing around the park is fantastic with regular sightings of lion and cheetah, and even some of the harder to see creatures such as caracal and an occasional pangolin.

Personal Thoughts on Leroo la Tau

Leroo La Tau is owned by Desert & Delta Safaris, part of Chobe Holdings — a 100% Botswana-owned company listed on the local stock exchange, with a portfolio going back to 1982 that includes camps like Chobe Game Lodge, Savute, and Camp Moremi. That heritage and local ownership always gives me confidence in how a camp is run day to day.

For me, Leroo La Tau is the obvious pick when clients want to see the pans properly. It’s built on cliffs over 10 metres above the Boteti River, so you get commanding views over the river and out toward the Makgadikgadi grasslands, and during the dry season and migration the game viewing along the riverbed is genuinely excellent — zebra and wildebeest concentrate hard there when water gets scarce elsewhere. The 2023 refurb also brought the interiors up to a standard that matches the setting, so it’s not just a “wildlife camp with dated rooms” anymore. Twelve well-spaced rooms means it doesn’t feel crowded either. It’s a strong all-rounder for anyone wanting the pans without sacrificing comfort.
