Little Mombo sits on Chief’s Island in Botswana’s Moremi Game Reserve, right in the heart of the Okavango Delta — an area nicknamed “the Place of Plenty” for its exceptional density of wildlife. It’s the smaller, more intimate sibling of the well-known Mombo camp, connected to it by a raised boardwalk, and offers just four luxury tents, making it one of the most exclusive safari properties in Africa. It’s often booked out entirely for private groups or families given its size. The camp has its own dedicated facilities separate from Mombo, including a dining area, boma, kitchen, lounge, and swimming pool, so guests get a fully private experience despite sharing the same prime stretch of floodplain and game-rich terrain.

The draw is the wildlife: the surrounding floodplains, channels, and islands support dense concentrations of lion, leopard, and wild dog, and predator-prey dynamics play out here more visibly than almost anywhere else in Botswana. Days are structured around dawn and dusk game drives, with optional hides for closer, ground-level wildlife viewing and scenic flights over the Delta’s mosaic landscape. Given the setting and exclusivity, it sits at the very top end of the safari market

Personal Thoughts on Little Mombo

Little Mombo represents something different for me — it’s less about a personal history with the place and more about what it stands for: an uncompromising commitment to quality and wildlife density in a tiny footprint. With just four tents, it’s one of the most exclusive properties I recommend, and every time I think about Chief’s Island, I’m reminded why. Sitting in the heart of Moremi, connected to its sister camp Mombo by a raised boardwalk, the area has long carried the nickname “the Place of Plenty” — and it earns it. The floodplains and channels here concentrate game in a way few other parts of the Delta can match, and the predator sightings are exceptional: lion prides, leopard, and wild dog packs all operate within a tight radius of camp, often within sight of the tents themselves.

What I appreciate most about Little Mombo is that it doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. It’s a small, private, exclusive-use camp built for guests who want intimacy and the very best game viewing without compromise. Dawn and dusk drives, the option of hides, scenic flights over the mosaic of the Delta — it’s a complete high-end experience, and in my view it sits right at the top of what Botswana safari camps can offer.
