Machaba Camp sits in the shade of sycamore fig trees on the Khwai riverfront, in a quiet eastern corner of the Khwai Community Concession (NG19) bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The camp takes its name from the Setswana word for the sycamore fig, or “tree of life,” and offers a friendly, down-to-earth safari experience with plenty of sophisticated touches.

Accommodation consists of 8 spacious standard twin/double tents and 2 family tents, all en suite and set at ground level on concrete plinths in classic 1950s safari style, sleeping a maximum of 24 guests. The open-sided main area includes a comfortable lounge, dining room, small library and a secluded swimming pool overlooking the Khwai River and the Moremi Game Reserve beyond. A spa therapist is available for in-room treatments.

The Khwai concession is renowned for excellent, consistent year-round game viewing, with regular sightings of leopard and wild dog, and the surrounding Sycamore Fig woodland draws elephant, baboon, bushbuck and birdlife when the trees are fruiting. Because the Khwai River is not dependent on Delta flood levels, game viewing here stays reliable through the shoulder seasons.

Activities include morning, afternoon and night game drives across both the Khwai concession and neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve, guided walking safaris, and mokoro excursions when water levels allow, along with cultural visits to the local Khwai village. The camp is open year-round and welcomes children of all ages.
