Mbamba is a classic-style tented camp set within the private NG12 concession (the Mapula and Sekwana Concession) in the north-western Okavango Delta, neighbouring Vumbura and Duba Plains and adjoining the renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Opened in April 2025, the camp is run in the vintage Ralph Bousfield safari style and is pitched beneath a stand of large leadwood trees overlooking tawny grasslands and shimmering channels.
The camp offers 12 canvas tents (4 doubles, 6 twins and 2 family units), each with an en-suite bathroom, indoor shower, over-bed cooling system and a private veranda. A central mess area with two lounges, a small library, a swimming pool and a firepit provides a relaxed and sociable base for guests between activities.
Mbamba’s 220,000-acre concession is known for its exceptional wildlife density, with reliable sightings of lion and one of the Delta’s top African wild dog denning areas nearby. Elephant and buffalo move through in impressive numbers, while sable antelope, lechwe, hippo and giraffe are also regularly seen. Birdlife is outstanding, with over 350 species recorded including the wattled crane, Pel’s fishing owl and carmine bee-eater.
Activities include day and night game drives, guided walks, and mokoro and motorboat excursions when water levels allow, along with excellent birdwatching and seasonal fishing. The camp is open year-round, with the dry winter months from April to October offering the best combination of game viewing and water-based activities. Mbamba is well suited to families and larger groups, with a minimum age of 6 years.
