Mogotlho

Mogotlho, meaning “camel thorn tree,” is an authentic safari camp set along the Khwai River in the Mababe region on the northern edge of the Okavango Delta. The private concession sits adjacent to both the Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park, in the interesting ecosystem created where the Khwai River feeds into the Mababe Depression.

Shaded by riverine forest, the camp comprises 11 standard tents and 2 family tents, each spacious and well-appointed with a private deck and generous en-suite bathroom overlooking the Khwai River. The main area sits in a prime sunset spot above the river, with a large thatched lounge, library, dining area, outdoor bar, firepit and swimming pool.

During the dry season from May to October, large herds of elephant move through the area with excellent sightings along the river, alongside buffalo, zebra, giraffe, lion, hippo, leopard and wild dog. Being a private concession, night drives are offered here, giving guests a chance to experience the area’s nocturnal wildlife.

Activities include morning and afternoon game drives, capped at nine guests per vehicle, along with bush walks, night drives and seasonal mokoro excursions at an extra cost. Full-day excursions with a picnic lunch into the neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve and Khwai area are highly recommended, and cultural visits to the local Mababe community can also be arranged. The lodge welcomes children aged 7 and above.
