Mokete

Opened in 2024, Mokete is the newest addition to the Wilderness Safaris portfolio, set in an exclusive private wilderness area straddling Botswana’s Mababe Depression, just north of the Mababe Marsh and east of the Okavango Delta, sandwiched between the Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park. Mokete means “celebration” or “gathering” in Setswana, a fitting name for a region known for exceptional wildlife densities.

Guests stay in 9 spacious tents, each with an elevated seating deck, a small private plunge pool, a separate living area, bedroom and bathroom, finished in a minimalist, earth-toned style with a cooling system above the bed. The tents branch off a central common area with an open-air lounge, dining area, bar and firepit, connected by elevated wooden footpaths. In-tent massage treatments are also available, along with a yoga mat and light weights for guests wanting to stretch between drives.

The Mababe Depression is often nicknamed “Elephants’ Paradise,” and the surrounding savannah, woodland and floodplain mix supports Africa’s largest buffalo herds, multiple lion prides and huge elephant numbers, alongside strong predator-prey activity throughout the area. Mokete is an exclusively land-based camp, with days built around two multi-hour game drives in an open 4×4.

Activities include full-day and night game drives, bush lunches out in the wildlife-rich landscape, time in a sunken photographic hide, guided bushwalks, birdwatching and sundowner stops. The camp is open year-round, with air conditioning and Wi-Fi in every tent, and welcomes children aged 6 and above.
