North Island Okavango sits on a private island in the far north of the Okavango Delta, within the community-owned NG23a concession, west of the renowned Vumbura and Duba Plains areas. Opened in late 2023 in partnership with local operator Nakwa and the Magobagoba Youth Trust, the camp is surrounded by a mosaic of islands, lagoons and transient channels, and receives the Delta’s floodwaters first each year, giving it some of the best water-based game viewing for most of the year.
There are seven spacious tented suites, including one family unit, each raised on a wooden deck beneath ebony, mangosteen and wild fig trees with sweeping lagoon views. Every suite has an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, a bathtub, a sunken deck with private plunge pool, ceiling fans and an over-bed cooling system, plus a cosy fireplace for cooler nights.
Camp is centred on a lounge and dining area overlooking a hippo-filled lagoon, connected by a wooden deck to a firepit for stargazing, with a small library and an outdoor gym tucked to the side. The camp runs on 100% solar power with careful waste management, and spa and wellness treatments are available at an additional cost.
This is one of the most game-rich concessions in the Delta, with the highest concentration of lion in the area, strong numbers of cheetah, wild dog and leopard, and roughly 40,000 elephants transiting through each year. Activities include mokoro excursions, boat safaris, day and night game drives, scenic helicopter flights and birding, with over 350 species recorded. North Island Okavango is open year-round and belongs to the Natural Selection portfolio.
