Okuti Camp is a delightful Ker & Downey Botswana camp set along the Maunachira River as it flows through Xakanaxa Lagoon in the renowned Moremi Game Reserve, an area famed for its year-round big game viewing. Following an extensive refurbishment, Okuti now offers a fresh and stylish take on its distinctive design, drawing inspiration from the riverbank and traditional reed houses.
The camp comprises 7 semi-circular reed-lined rooms known as “Masasas”, each raised on teak decks with private balconies overlooking the river. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with shower and bath, hot and cold running water and flush toilets, and interiors have been reconfigured to maximise the stunning Okavango views. Two family units, each with two bedrooms sharing spacious bathroom facilities, make Okuti a particularly good choice for those travelling with children.
At the heart of camp is the raised fire deck, offering sweeping views over the waters that flow in front of Okuti, where each day begins and ends to a chorus of reed frogs and honking hippos. The open lagoons and winding channels nearby are a birder’s paradise, with herons and storks especially prolific during the breeding season.
Guests can explore this game-rich corner of the Moremi by 4×4 game drive or by motorboat along the tranquil Xakanaxa Lagoon, with excellent year-round sightings of lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo, set within a varied landscape of pans, floodplains, lagoons, grasslands and mopane woodland.
