Pom Pom camp is one of the best known and most idyllic camps in the Okavango. This camp has been setting precedents in Botswana for over 20 years. It is acclaimed for a very good reason. The lodge, which belongs to the Kwando Safaris portfolio, is luxurious, and the service is impeccable. The camp is situated on an island, to the west of the Moremi Game reserve at the head waters of the Xudum river.

The camp has 9 luxurious raised tents that are positioned comfortably in the shade of palms. Each tent has en-suite facilities and private viewing decks looking out over the surrounding areas.

The camp offers game drives within the heart of the Delta, and this ensures that guests see a lot more wildlife. The mokoro polers in the area are also well known, and viewing game from a traditional dugout canoe while staying at this lodge is a highly recommendable experience.

Personal Thoughts on Pom Pom

Pom Pom is one I genuinely like — it’s the real deal, and it’s earned its reputation as one of Botswana’s best all-round camps for consistent game sightings. Run by Kwando Safaris, it has that classic, rustic-luxury feel that a lot of newer, glossier camps have moved away from: proper canvas tents, outdoor showers, fireside chats after the day’s drive. It doesn’t try to be anything it’s not, and I think that’s exactly its appeal. The leopard and wild dog activity here is consistently excellent, and having hippos grumbling and lions roaring right around camp at night is the sort of authentic touch that makes guests remember a trip long after they’re home. It’s a great option for clients who want the classic Okavango experience without excessive polish, and the family suite means it works well for families too, not just purist safari-goers. One practical note worth passing on to guests: mokoro and boating are only available seasonally (May to September during the floods), so outside that window it’s a land-based, game-drive-and-walking experience.
