Qorokwe Camp

Qorokwe is an all round amazing camp. Plenty of wildlife in that concession, and it is excellent quality. Wilderness Safaris doesn’t market it as one of their premier camps for some reason, but it seriously could be. No questions asked. Nine tented suites, a lagoon-facing main area, permanent water year-round, and a concession that consistently delivers on lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah and wild dog. It quietly outperforms its reputation.

The camp is owned by Cobus Calitz and Jil Gerard-Calitz, a private Maun-based couple, with Wilderness brought in to market and manage it rather than owning it outright. My only concern about Qorokwe is that Wilderness has recently lost lodges from the Jao concession. They were managing those lodges under their portfoilio in much the same way they manage Qorokwe for the Calitz family.  It does make me wonder how long they’ll keep managing and marketing camps like Qorokwe that sit on privately or trust-owned concessions rather than concessions that Wilderness itself controls. It’s not a knock on the camp itself, more a question mark over the stability of the arrangement long-term. However, that said, the Calitz family have done an amazing job with this camp and it is well worth a visit – anytime of the year.
