Sable Alley

Sable Alley sits on the banks of a lily-covered lagoon in the Khwai Private Reserve, on the north-eastern edge of the Okavango Delta. The camp takes its name from the sable antelope found in the area, and, following a comprehensive refurbishment, is a light, bright and thoroughly stylish addition to Khwai. Hippo splash in the lagoon out front, and elephant and buffalo are regular visitors to drink. Sable Alley belongs to the Natural Selection portfolio.

There are twelve spacious canvas suites – nine twin/double, one honeymoon and two family tents – each a generous 55 square metres, with a mini lounge, writing desk, indoor shower and outdoor shower, and a flush loo. Screen doors slide back for uninterrupted views over the lagoon, and each suite has its own veranda for a closer look at the comings and goings below.

The communal areas are built around the same view, with a bar, lounge and outdoor fire pit all looking out over the water. There’s a swimming pool and sun deck for watching the hippo pods emerge in the heat of the day, and dinner is served either in the indoor dining area or alfresco on the deck, with the sounds of the bush for company after dark.

Game viewing is exceptional right from camp, with predator sightings — lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog — a regular feature of the game-rich floodplains of Khwai Private Reserve. Beyond camp, activities include day and night game drives, guided walking safaris, mokoro and boat safaris, and an early-morning predator patrol alongside the KPR rangers.
