The Best in Botswana Mobile Safaris

A mobile safari is becoming an iconic part of the safari culture in Botswana. It’s a way to experience Botswana through a new lens and adds a deeper connection to wildlife and the overall safari experience. On a mobile safari guests travel through northern Botswana along different routes and staying in privately erected camps in areas throughout the Okavango Delta, Tsodilo Hills, Savute, Chobe, the Makgadikgadi Pans, and the Kalahari.

Guests are collected at the start point, either Maun or Kasane, in game viewing vehicles and the entire trip is done by vehicle. During the trip, guests stay in private camp sites in a tented camp that is erected exclusively for your use.  The camp and staff move the camp to each destination that we travel through. What this means is that during your game drive or day of activity (mekoro, game walks, etc…) our team moves the camp so you arrive in a completely new destination ready to unwind and relax.

Our game viewing vehicles are open sided and typically take 6 or 7 travellers so that each person gets a window seat. The vehicles are equipped with a fridge and charging points for camera gear and phones.

You are able to do a mobile safari in private or even join a group. Whatever floats your mokoro. Mobiles are excellent for smaller honeymoon experiences, as well as for families (with or without kids).

Mobile safaris also work well when mixing with lodges, and we can and often do fly guests directly into an Okavango lodge from their last night on mobile.

Our tented camp is made up of large spacious tents with ensuite bathrooms. There is a covered dining area where most meals are served.

A typical day on safari would entail early wake (usually around 5 am) followed by breakfast at 6 am (Tea, coffee, juice, toast, cereals and oat porridge). The morning drive will be to track and search for wildlife with a tea/ coffee break at around 9.30 depending on game viewing. Lunch in camp is typically served around 1pm. At this stage of the day, guests can take a siesta or a shower before afternoon tea is served prior to the afternoon/ evening drive. On return from the drive, guests can take a shower or have a drink around the campfire.

Drive times between camps are typically 3 hours and involve game drives through pristine wilderness areas filled with wildlife.

Where and when to travel

Probably the best place for an mobile safari is in the Okavango Delta. However, Tsodilo Hills, Savute, Chobe and the the Makgadikgadi Pans are great alternatives. We also run mobile safaris from Maun through to Kasane exploring Moremi, Khwai, Savute and the Chobe National Park on the way.

Best amount of time for a mobile is anywhere from 4 to 10 Days.

Best time of the year for a mobile safari? Well that depends on the type of person you are and what you are after. Low season, running from December to March is a good time for a mobile as it’s quieter and gives you the freedom to choose. April to June is a great time in the Okavango as the flood waters bring a rush of life into the arterial network of the delta.
